Frequently Asked Questions

What are CCTV pipe inspections?

CCTV pipe inspections use a robotic crawler camera to drive down into a pipe and take photos and video footage of the condition and grade.

Why should I use Drain Cam and not a plumber?

At Drain Cam, CCTV pipeline inspections are what we do. We don’t have other jobs to schedule around our inspections. Our team is ready to deploy and deliver efficient and accurate services to our clients when they need it.

What do I need to provide you with when I call?

We’ll need to know the:

  • total length of the pipe
  • diameter of the pipe
  • job address
  • on-site contact and phone number
  • purchase order number (if relevant).

Can the camera drive around bends?

Cameras can drive around subtle bends provided there are no obstacles in the way. Our remote operators cannot drive them around 90-degree bends as this may result in the camera getting stuck.

How long will it take to turnaround my report?

Depending on the size of the job, we will have created your report and electronic data within 24 hours.

Do you travel outside Brisbane to job sites?

Yes, we travel to the Gold Coast, Warwick, Toowoomba and the Sunshine Coast as part of our daily run. We also travel to any sites along the eastern coast of Australia, depending on the size of the project. Please call our team to discuss.

Does Drain Cam take care of the repairs?

No. Our team has a deep understanding of drain inspection technology and techniques, and we maintain our expertise by focusing on this area.

What sort of problems are CCTV pipe inspections used to detect?

Some common problems include:

  • Cracked or collapsed pipework
  • Foreign objects
  • Tree roots
  • Clogs and blockages
  • Weakness from external forces
  • Defective pipe junctions and displaced joints.

How can a Drain Cam inspection save me money?

A pipe inspection may expose defects that, if left unchecked, could lead to a costly repair or excavation. Inspections can also help you accurately locate problems, saving the expense of unnecessary excavation.

What do I need to do to prepare for a CCTV pipeline inspection?

Your pipes need to be spotless to ensure an accurate inspection. Most people don’t realise that councils will reject a report if the footage is unclear. You’ll need to flush the system clean with a high-pressure hose, removing all debris and dust.

How long will an inspection take

The inspection time depends greatly on the level of survey required and the condition and length of the pipe. Pipes in poor condition will take longer as there are more defects to record.

What will my report include?

We use the latest WinCan software to generate reports that comply with council and industry standards. The data is captured in an easy-to-read paper and electronic report, including photos and DVD footage. The data is captured in an easy-to-read paper and electronic report, including photos and DVD/USB footage.
